Wearing suits can have different connotations to different people at
different places and in different times. While some may see someone in it
respectable and confident, others see people in men’s suits in strict
bureaucratic elitist. In the modern society, suits are reserved for formal
occasions like weddings, dates and parties rather than daily wear except those
who wears it based on their professions like lawyers and those in the corporate
world. For whatever reason you wear suits, there are certain rules on how to
wear it along with the other wardrobe that you have.
Suits and ties.
Wearing suit often comes with the tie. Wearing ties does not come in strict rule
but rather based on personal preferences. However there are a few guides to
follow, one is that the tie should be darker than the suit. Ideally, the tie
should harmonize the color of the suit but should that be the same color of the
shirt, doing so will lose its very essence. When it comes to the design, plain
and printed are acceptable but for formal events, plain or simple patterns are
preferred. If you are unsure about the tie, you can ask somebody to decide it
for you. More often, you will know when it fits you when you look in front of
the mirror.
Shirts and suits. Men would prefer wearing plain crisp shirt
under the suits. Moreover, long sleeves, a full-length buttoned opening down the
front, and a collar is a garment preferred to match the suit best. Colors chosen
are light blue or white, with white considered most conservative. For a more
modern look, others prefer pastel colors and continue to grow in
popularity.
The best pair of socks. It is uncommon that socks are based
on the shirt but rather on the trousers. It is a general rule that the color of
the socks should be darker than the trousers. Another is that the color of the
socks should match the primary color of the suit. Therefore, the safest colors
are black and brown. Socks are preferred at least the mid-calf
height.
The pair of shoes. Shoes should be smart as suits create a smart
impression. Traditionally, shoes that are preferred are the formal ones like
Oxfords and black or brown leather shoes. Don’t forget to check if they are
clean and shiny as shoes also create its own impression.

other rules to follow when wearing suits including the accessories like belts
and handkerchief. Whatever these rules are, it is important that you first know
