  • Valentino Sunglasses and Its Brand History




Mention the name Valentino to practically any person in the world and their
instant thoughts will be of style and sophistication. Understandably so, as the
Valentino name remains as revered and celebrated today among fashion circles as
it ever has since the day the brand came to be. However, as much as the name
itself is something of a household name the world over, far fewer people are
aware of the rich history of the Valentino brand, along with background of the
man himself and how his empire was created.


Valentino, or Valentino Clemente Ludovico Garavani to use his full title,
first became interested in the world of fashion and design when he was still in
primary school in the town he grew up in. Voghere, Lombardy, Italy. During this
time, he apprenticed as student of his aunt Rosa and a local designer by the
name of Ernestina Salvadeo, who was in turn related to the respected artist Aldo
Giorgini. Following this period, Valentino relocated to Paris to follow his new
found passion with the help of mother Teresa de Biaggi and father Mauro
Garavani. While residing in Paris, Valentino studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts
along with the Chambre Sydicale de la Couture Parisienne, both among the finest
institutes in the world for budding design and fashion talents.


During his time in Paris, Valentino's first apprenticeship choice was Jacques
Fath, folloed by Balenciaga. He embarked upon an apprenticeship with Jean
Desses, during which he found himself helping, among others, style icon
Jacqueline de Ribes to sketch and map put her dress design ideas. He
subsequently joined Guy Laroche for approximately 2 years.


While at Jean Desses, Valentino was known to sketch vigorously in-between his
duties of assisting window dressing and welcoming clients to the private daily
showings every afternoon. Sadly, most of these original and early sketches were
lost or destroyed throughout the years. However, a number of surviving examples
were displayed at an exhibition in Rome in 1991, where current worshippers of
the Valentino style such as Elizabeth Taylor and Marie-Helen de Rothschild were
simply blown away by how much the original sketches showed the talent and
creativity which would ultimately make Valentino a household name, displaying
animal prints and pleats so familiar in his more modern collections.


Five years later, Valentino departed Jean Desses under less than ideal
circumstances regarding an extended holiday in Saint-Tropez; the details of
which are still not entirely clear but make Valentino somewhat uncomfortable
even to this day. Thankfully, his friend and associate Guy Laroche was there to
rescue Valentino from this troublesome situation, subsequently taking him on as
a member of his fashion house. Long talks with his parents saw Valentino return
to Italy in the end, setting up office in Rome during 1959.


The international breakthrough for the Valentino name happened shortly after
during the year 1962, in the then fashion capital of Italy, Florence. His debut
show as the Pitti palace caused nothing short of hysteria and was acclaimed by
key players across the industry as a revelation. Needless to say, the subsequent
result was an absolute avalanche of interest and orders from buyers across the
world, not to mention endless adoration and promotion through the press.


The addition of sunglasses to the Valentino collection came about in order
for the brand to continue pushing the envelope in terms of technology and
fashion in the field of eyewear, the same principals applied to items across the
range. This was subsequently demonstrated by the insistence of Valentino to
create separate ranges of eyewear for the different seasons of the year, rather
than a single range to be worn throughout.


With the advantage of being located among the most revered and celebrated
designers in the industry today, Valentino regularly share ideas and gain
inspiration from their closest neighbours and rivals, affording the greatest
ability to produce the most cutting edge sunglasses possible. The Valentino
company, along with its founder, has always been seen as a free-spirited entity,
which is a philosophy incorporated into product ranges across the board,
including luxury eyewear.


By the mid-point of the 1960's, Valentino was considered the undisputed
heavyweight in the field of Italian couture, winning an endless string of awards
and adornments across the board, including a Neiman Marcus Fashion Award which
is tantamount to an Oscar in the fashion industry. Little has changed since
then, with the Valentino client list growing ever larger and more high profile
as the years roll by, earning the great man a guaranteed place in the history of
all time fashion greats the world will ever be likely to see.

  • The Name That Is Calvin Klein




Calvin Klein is a fashion designer who was born on November 19th, 1942,
within the Bronx, New York, and was raised within borough's Mosholu Parkway
section, a middle-class Jewish neighborhood of 1st and 2nd-generation
immigrants. While a teenager, Klein had a passion for drawing and fashion,
oftentimes spending hours upon hours sketching ladies in dresses and suits. Upon
graduation from the High School of Design and Art, Klein learned about apparel
design in Manhattan's pre-eminent Fashion Technology Institute, where Klein met
a fellow student named Jayne Centre. The duo married within 1964, just two years
after Klein finished up his course work.


Inspired by the unpretentious and fresh style of New York's youth, Calvin set
out to start his own line within 1968. With a bit of financial help by Barry
Schwartz, a friend from childhood, he paid an area seamstress in order to design
a handful of dresses and coats. The merchandise manager from Bonwit Teller came
to Calvin's dirty showroom and noticed the collection. Within a few weeks, the
chic store bought $50,000 worth of clothing and showed the samples within 8 of
their coveted windows. Shortly thereafter, Klein developed a designer sportswear
line.


Through the fashion field, word spread rapidly concerning Calvin and his
smooth designs, that were now showed frequently in Harper's Bazaar and Vogue.
Within the 70s, he presented his signature jeans, that he rose to designer
status by cutting them tight, then branding his name upon the pockets. A
sequence of provocative ads developed a designer jean craze amongst purchasers,
who were buying above 40,000 pairs weekly.


Within 1982, by adding his logo and style to briefs and boxers, Calvin Klein
conquered the underclothing marketplace. He blurred boundaries between sexes,
making masculine bikinis made for ladies. Within the 1980s, Klein got into the
fragrance marketplace with the launching of Eternity and Obsession.


The label extended over a period of time to involve eyewear, hosiery,
accessories and swimwear. Within the 1990s, he began to make a less expensive
accessories and casual apparel line underneath the brand CK. With his signature
minimalist designs, Calvin got into the home d閏or marketplace, in which
accessories that ranged from bedding linens to bath towels bore his name. His
more recent endeavor is Calvin Klein Cosmetics, a makeup line sold only within
fine department stores. To this day, Klein Incorporated exceeds six billion
dollars within yearly sales.

  • Summer Office Attire for Men




It's important that you always look your best at work, regardless of whether
your office demands that you wear formal or casual attire. Looking polished and
put together doesn't depend on they style of your clothes, but rather how you
wear them.


With summer around the corner a lot of professionals are starting to plan
their summer work wardrobe. For women this is easy, skirts, summer dresses,
espadrilles, pretty sandals and a staple cardigan to wear in instances of
intense air conditioning. But for men, summer work wardrobes can be a bit
trickier. At some work places it is acceptable to wear dress shorts with nice
shoes and maybe even a short-sleeved dress shirt- or a dress shirt with the
sleeves rolled up at the very least. This freedom vastly opens up summer work
options. The first thing is to go out and buy a couple of pairs of shoes that go
with dress shorts. Some nice ones are Tod's driving shoes or maybe a short suede
ankle boot. Summer is the season to be colourful, so if you are allowed to wear
shorts to work, you might want to choose a few colours of a pair you like. Sorts
look really nice with white tees or nautical stripes, but if that's not going to
fly at work you might go for a short-sleeved dress shirt or a long shirt with
the sleeves rolled up.


For those men who don't have such fashion liberties at work, summers
unfortunately are much hotter and uncomfortable months. Your work might require
that you wear a suit, but perhaps they won't mind if that suit is made out of
linen. Linen is a light fabric that is ideal for the summer, because it allows
your clothes (and therefore you) to breathe. If a full linen suit isn't
acceptable at your office, than maybe suit the jacket would be okay. If even
that's too much, than at the very least you might choose suits in summer
colours, like light grey, a softer shade of blue, or even khaki.


Accessories are a great way to sharpen a more casual work look. Dark jeans, a
white dress shirt and a pullover for instance, look funky formal with the
addition of a bow tie. Coloured dress shorts, a white dress shirt, a nice pair
of cufflinks and killer shoes also make a great look.


Like I said, it's not what you wear but how you wear it. If you're lucky
enough to work somewhere where attire isn't as big of an issue, than you might
want to experiment with a variety of looks this summer. Or if you wok somewhere
with tighter rules, try pushing the envelope a tad and see how far you can
get.

  • Men's Magic Fashion Show: What Happens In Vegas, Stays In Vegas


Who, What, Where?


February 14th of 2011 wasn't just for Valentine's day this year, but for fashion, too-the "Magic" fashion show at the Convention Center in Vegas started from February 14th and lasted until the 16th. Fashion shows are always thought of a glamorous event, mostly for women. Honestly, the only men's fashion shows are stereotypically more for the brands names than the customers, unless you count celebrities. The Average Joe has no need for a fashion show, right? That's what Magic is here for


Magical Magic


Magic is international fashion; for the broadest spectrum of designs, designers, and forms of fashion-from coats to shoes-on an international, industrial level, think of Magic, because it's Magic that host buyers as well as sellers from across the world for not just women's fashion, but men's and even children's to boot. This year in Vegas, the fashion show revolves around nine "boutiques" to showcase all of fashion to include accessories as well as apparel: STREET Unlimited, FN PLATFORM, PREMIUM, S.L.A.T.E., POOLTRADESHOW, SOURCING, WWDMAGIC, and of course MENSWEAR.


Vegas 2011


The Vegas 2011 Magic show is meant for everyone, which is important for men-we men don't often have a reason, or get a chance to have a reason, to go to a fancy-shmancy fashion show, because, again, it's often for high end female celebs. The Magic show in Vegas this year is targeting a large spectrum of fashion, and so businesses are even encouraged to come, like textile technology importers and exporters, general garment manufacturers, embroiderers, and businesses revolving around accessories, textile materials, trimmings, and laundries. Don't forget, the general public-including men-are also targeted, so fellas, enjoy.


Men's Fashion


Talk is cheap-is the international show in Vegas of 2011 really for men? Sure, and here's some proof-shoes. In one of the previews given to the public via blogs is a sneak peek into the upcoming shoe collection meant just for men, with brands ranging from Puma, a more Everyman kind of a brand, to Lacoste, a brand for the more accomplished men with just as much extra spending money as an eye for style.


Shoes were actually so highly anticipated as a theme to men's fashion that the entire first day of the Vegas fashion show was, you guess it-shoes. What the 2011 Vegas Magic fashion show proved was two major things-sneaker hybrids are only gaining momentum and are here to stay, and boots are the biggest thing since the sneaker itself.


When it came to sneaker hybrids, the most popular were boat shoe hybrids, or sneakers where the laces are a little thicker, a little more vibrant yet not overly colorful, and some excess. Stay tuned for more information on the Vegas show with Mens underwear and swimwear.
